Furthering Digital Literacy
Despite widespread computer and internet usage in the United States, less than 1/3 of low-income older adults own smartphones and more than 1/2 do not use the internet, which are essential to access telehealth and other services that underpin the social determinants of health. Digital literacy is increasingly recognized as a “super” social determinant of health (SDoH).
TechUp educates clients on the fundamental skills to use technologies like smartphones, computers, and tablets.

Driven by a deep awareness of the challenges faced by Baltimore's homeless, we, as Hopkins students, committed to tackling these issues. Our proposal for the Ten by Twenty Challenge aimed to break down employment barriers for this underserved community. Out of 46 entries, ours stood out, garnering over 800 votes from the Hopkins community and winning a significant $20,000 grant.
